WELCOME. MY NAME IS JAKE, AND MY LIFE'S WORK IS TELLING STORIES.
My wife, Annelise, with me and our little one, Theodore, in the fall of 2023.
I'm a designer for the Star Tribune — working from my home in Lexington, Ky. — joining its award-winning design team in March 2023, working on anything from daily news, sports, business, to special projects.
Previously, I was a Sports Team Lead for Gannett’s unified Design Center, coordinating the network’s shared coverage, but also collaborating with newsrooms and managing and mentoring designers.
I also worked on sports sections for USA TODAY and other properties nationwide — putting my spin on their daily and special sections with the help of photo illustration, graphics and statistics.
I graduated in 2012 with a B.S. in journalism from Iowa State University, but far more valuable than the degree was the four years I devoted to the Iowa State Daily, the campus' award-winning, student-run news organization. In that time, I covered four different NCAA teams and acted as Sports Editor and Managing Editor prior to ultimately serving as Editor in Chief.
I'm a shamelessly proud parent of both an energetic pup and precocious preschooler, a soccer lover and a wannabe master wordsmith. Those who know me have described me as "wonderfully wordsy."
